Classes for Spring/Summer 2023
Feather River Fly Fishing School offers a variety of classes ranging from 1 to 3 days long as well as some special events. See our 2023 schedule below!
Session 1 (1 , 2 or 3 days): June 5-7 Session 2 (1, 2 or 3 days): June 11-13 Session 3 (1, 2 or 3 days): June 19-21 Cost is $600 for each day/night of instruction, lodging and meals. For those not staying at the ranch the cost is $400 per day. |
☝️ dayDay 1: 9:00 am - 4:00 pmOverview of fly fishing – a fully stocked fly vest, the fly fishing rig, exploring the fly box – dry flies, nymphs and streamers, Knots - tie the double surgeons & clinch knots, science of fly casting – loading the rod, learning to cast a fly rod – the overhead cast & roll cast, how to catch, fight, land, and release a fish, fishing & applying what’s been learned on the pond.

✌️ dayDay 2: 9:00 am - 4:00 pmCasting warm-up, safe wading techniques, stalking fish, reading the environment and water, rigging for dry fly fishing, mending the line, practice – fly fishing, rigging for & indicator nymph fishing, the “U-cast,” application of morning skills & afternoon strategy – dry or nymph, fishing etiquette.

3dayDay 3: 9:00 am - 4:00 pmCasting warm-up, Overview of the day, Review of Day 1 - Safe wading techniques, stalking fish, reading the environment, reading the water, rigging for Indicator nymph and/or dry fly fishing, Fishing the dry-dropper technique, Stream side entomology aka – BUGS!, Fly fishing & matching the “hatch,” Application of morning skills & afternoon strategy, Fishing streamers, Practice your skills – fly fishing!
